This antique and intricate technique demands from the artist to be able to draw, to hav a powerful and precise hand of a woodcutter, to master a chisel and print professionally. The material of the very cliche is wood . The wood must be seasoned and processed very well (it needs about 10 years), hard species are preferred : box-tree, pear-tree, birch, cornel-tree. Typing needs paint of high quality and thin paper of high quality - Chinese paper is preferred. Woodcut may be made in 2 ways : on the butt-end (butt-end woodcut) and on the longitudinal saw-cut . This technique is called the technique of high typing, because the imprint arises from the line or the point which towers above the rest of the plane of the plate.
